I enjoy tutoring and teaching because it makes a difference in the lives of students. I enjoy seeing students make progress, build their confidence, and meet their goals.

 

The best exercises are meaningful, and they can be applied to real life. I believe in practical education, not busywork.

I have a knack for breaking complex ideas down into smaller, simpler parts. Valuing clarity and progress, I love the “aha" or "lightbulb" moment that my students experience.

 

Although every part of a tutoring session is important, I believe in spending more time on the student's areas of difficulty. I identify those areas as early as possible so I can best meet the student's needs. Students can tell the difference between someone who is simply going through the motions and someone who is sincerely trying to help them improve.

 

My students have shown significant improvement. Now, they are better prepared to advance to the next level or take the next step of their journeys.

Improving one's skills in English leads to greater employment opportunities, greater social mobility, and a better quality of life. I am a teacher and tutor who helps English language learners achieve their goals.

 

I possess a 120-Hour TEFL Certificate and a Ph.D. in English in addition to my experience as an English teacher at the high school and college levels.

 

One of my strengths is my ability to help my students understand and eliminate their mistakes. Since I am also a professional editor, I am much sharper than most people when it comes to correcting mistakes in grammar, sentence structure, and clarity. Students who wish to become fluent in English will value me as a teacher or tutor.

 

Of course, I am fluent in English, but I speak other languages. My Spanish is intermediate-level, having lived in Mexico and studied there through a Mexican university and a language immersion program. As a global citizen, I have a high level of respect and appreciation for English language learners from all over the world.

 

I was born in South Carolina, and I have also lived in Iowa and Maryland. My travels have included states such as California and Florida as well as countries such as France.
